As a publication that empowers women with useful, inspiring and empowering content, Her World celebrates women.
The Her World Woman of the Year (WOTY) yearly awards are no different.
The awards commemorate fearless visionaries who have made significant contributions in Singapore or overseas. Past winners include Singapore’s first female President, Halimah Yacob (2003), and Angelene Chan (2017), who had received the top presidential design award just a month ago.
Held at the Island Ballroom at the Shangri-La Hotel Singapore, this year’s gala was attended by close to 300 guests, such as former WOTY winners like Jennie Chua (1999) and Young Woman Achievers like Melissa Kwee (2007) and Janice Wong (2011/12).
Madam President Halimah Yacob also graced our event as this year’s guest-of-honour.
This year’s Woman of the Year title was conferred to Ng Ling Ling, 46. As the former managing director of Community Chest, her efforts made the organisation stronger and she worked tirelessly to improve the social services sector of Singapore.
“If I have influenced or encouraged one young person to believe in social service and the cause of giving (that would be my greatest accomplishment).” – Ng Ling Ling
Olivia Lee, a 33-year-old industrial design, whose works have gained fame worldwide and continues to inspire us with her innovative artistry, was the 2018 Young Woman Achiever.
“I believe this (win) is an important message for little girls everywhere – that hopes and dreams come in different sizes, and that all of them are attainable.” – Olivia Lee
Guests were treated with a Her World signature cocktail specially concocted by Mixes from Mars, which included gin, prosecco and elderflower liquer, and beautiful floral centrepieces by Mirage Flowers adorned each table. Bvlgari, Decorte and Bynd Artisan also made the night extra special as each guest went home with gifts.
Of course, no gala is complete without our esteemed guests who were dressed to the nines. Want to know who made our Best Dressed list? Click here to find out (and maybe steal a styling tip or two!)
