East-meets-West with Kenzo’s newly launched La Collection Memento N°2 capsule range. Fusing traditional Japanese design elements such as the silhouette of a kimono, or prints of “The Great Wave Off Kanagawa” with the use of denim and workwear-inspired overalls, this second Memento collection is a reflection of Kenzo’s rich history. Wanting to honour founder Kenzo Takada’s heritage, Creative Directors Humberto Leon and Carol Lim paid homage to the Japanese designer by incorporating some of the brand’s archival prints and motifs into the collection. This came in the form of the ‘Bamboo Tiger’ motif and the fervent use of denim (which nods at Takada’s iconic Kenzo Jeans launched in 1986).
There were also more modern prints: tropical foliage, pixelated clouds, technicoloured bamboos were some of the many which donned the playful summer pieces.
