When you see models come down the runway during major fashion events like Singapore Fashion Week (SGFW), you don’t often see the less glamourous (and instagrammed) side effects like jet lag, over-worked and tired skin, and stressful runs between shows. Yet, their skin seems to remain free from blemishes and imperfections even backstage when they don’t have a single trace of makeup on.We witnessed that recently when we were backstage with them at SGFW.

While good genes could be one factor, these models not only have access to the best beauty gurus in the business, they are also as extremely diligent when it comes to caring for their skin, as we found out. We spoke to models Fiona Fussi, Aimee Cheng Bradshaw and Jean Yong and they revealed to us some of their beauty secrets.

  1. Always moisturise their skin and stay hydrated

This should come as no surprise. Drinking water and applying moisturiser regularly is crucial for getting hydrated, clear and wrinkle free skin. Aimee tells us that she applies a water-based moisturiser that doesn’t clog the pores once in the day and at night.  She would also apply moisturiser throughout the day on parts on her face where it tends to get dry like her nose and under her eyes, Water-based moisturisers are especially good for those with oil skin because it is non-comedogenic and will help to fight acne by reducing pores.

  1. Always remove your makeup

With so much going on between shows, outfit and makeup changes, many of the models we spoke to told us the importance of having a thorough cleansing routine. We can’t emphasise how important this is.

  1. When in doubt, apply red lipstick

Jean recommends using a red lipstick with a blue undertone to look more awake. Apart from adding a touch of Hollywood glamour to any look, a blue-toned lipstick can also help to make any yellow stains on your teeth appear less noticeable because blue cancels out yellow on the colour wheel.

  1. For long and plush lashes, curl your lashes with a heated eyelash curler

Fiona revealed that her heated eyelash curler is one of her favourite tools. If you don’t have one at home, try this hack instead. Using a hair dryer, warm up your eyelash curler before curling each eye.

  1. Banish blisters with Vaseline

If your new shoes are starting to give you limp-inducing blisters, lubricate your skin and reduce friction by applying some Vaseline on your feet.
