In the quest for beautiful, healthy and improved skin texture, many of us may be familiar with skin boosters. It’s no secret how they have become game-changers for those looking to rejuvenate their appearance without procedures that are too invasive, or have a long downtime.

For the uninitiated, skin boosters are injectable treatments that enhance deep skin hydration, help to improve skin texture, elasticity and overall appearance. It’s that miracle moisturiser that penetrates deep into your skin and works wonders for treating dull skin, fine lines, wrinkles, as well as skin damage caused by acne or sun exposure.

For the uninitiated, skin boosters are injectable treatments that enhance deep skin hydration, help to improve skin texture, elasticity and overall appearance.

In fact, how I stumbled into the world of skin boosters was because I was looking to improve my acne scars and dull skin texture — but I was quite confused as to what works best for my skin. The options were aplenty but what about the efficacy? I didn’t want to do a treatment just because all my friends were doing it and raving about it. Unfortunately for me I have problematic skin, it’s hyper-sensitive and also riddled with acne scars and hyper-pigmentation. So, what works for my friends with already good skin, certainly won’t do the same for me.

But hey, technology is so advanced these days and I refuse to give up and think that I will never be able to have great skin. Besides researching and scouring through the internet and social media like Tik Tok (don’t rely on the advice given without consulting with an expert), I felt that the real assurance was if I spoke to a professional.

So I reached out to Dr Gerard Ee to empower myself with more knowledge about skin boosters.

“There are common misconceptions about Juvelook, Profhilo, and Rejuran with many people assuming that these three treatments are interchangeable,” Dr Ee says. “ While all three improve skin quality, they serve different purposes — Juvelook focuses on skin collagen stimulation, Profhilo provides hydration and firmness, and Rejuran repairs and regenerates.”

Improve your skin texture and dark eye circles with Rejuran

Personally, my acne scars affected me the most so after speaking with Dr Ee, I knew that Rejuran and Juvelook were most suited for my skin. Rejuran is recommended to be done together with Infini treatments as Rejuran acts as a skin repair and healer and provides collagen repair when the skin has already received micro-damage from a microneedle fractional radiofrequency treatment like Infini. Juvelook, however, can be a standalone procedure for acne scar treatment — but more on that later.

Rejuran is a skin rejuvenation treatment that uses salmon DNA to stimulate collagen production and improve skin health. As Rejuran and Juvelook are treatments that harness your skin’s natural ability to rejuvenate collagen, it’s no wonder why these skin boosters have quickly rose in popularity to become one of the most effective treatment for superficial acne scars ie. boxcar scars and rolling acne scars.

But a word of caution from Dr Ee is that Rejuran will not treat acne, it will only improve your skin texture and acne scars. Dr Ee suggests three to four sessions, two to four weeks apart and every six months to maintain your skin’s health.

As Rejuran harnesses your skin’s natural ability to rejuvenate collagen, it’s no wonder why it has quickly rose in popularity to become one of the most effective treatment for superficial acne scars.

There are three types of Rejuran treatments available — Rejuran 1, Rejuran Healer and Rejuran S. For my type of skin, Rejuran S would be my best bet as it has the highest viscosity and is ideal for acne scar treatment, as it acts like a filler for depressed and sunken spots.

Rejuran 1 has the lowest viscosity, and I am a fan having tried it a few years back. It did wonders for my dark eye circles and it’s ideal for getting rid of wrinkles around the eyes and for general under-eye rejuvenation. Rejuran Healer, however, has a medium viscosity level and can provide added hydration, which helps strengthen the skin’s regenerative ability including neck rejuvenation.

You want that healthy skin glow and improve acne scars? Juvelook is for you.

If you’re looking for healthy skin glow and to lift saggy areas, consider Juvelook or Profilo. According to Dr Ee, Juvelook is ideal for individuals looking to address fine lines, wrinkles, and loss of skin elasticity, particularly in the mid 30s to 50s age range. And unlike traditional hyaluronic acid fillers that simply fill lines and wrinkles, Juvelook is a pioneering treatment that combines PDLLA (Poly-D, L-Lactic Acid) — which is a collagen stimulator — coupled with the hydrating benefits of HA (Hyaluronic Acid).

Juvelook, when injected directly into the scar provides the most amount of collagen stimulation as it can directly stimulate collagen and improve the scars directly.

This unique blend not only enhances skin hydration but also stimulates collagen production, improving skin glow, firmness, and overall texture.

If you, like me, are still struggling with acne scars and you’re above 40, you will be an excellent candidate for Juvelook. Dr Ee says: “Juvelook, when injected directly into the scar provides the most amount of collagen stimulation as it can directly stimulate collagen and improve the scars directly.” He suggests three sessions spaced between four weeks and for maintenance, every six to 12 months for lasting results.

Profhilo for plumper and firmer skin

“Profhilo is perfect for those experiencing early signs of ageing, dullness, or mild skin laxity, and looking for an all-over rejuvenation boost. It also contains one of the highest concentrations of  hyaluronic acid (HA) on the market,” explains Dr Ee. I’ve also learned that unlike dermal fillers, Profhilo is not just about adding volume, it’s more like a moisturiser that aims to give you a huge boost of hydration from within stimulating the natural production of four different types of collagen and elastin in the skin.

Profhilo is not just about adding volume, it’s more like a moisturiser that aims to give you a huge boost of hydration from within stimulating the natural production of four different types of collagen and elastin in the skin.

Why are collagen and elastin important, you ask? It’s responsible for maintaining firmness and elasticity. It’s the go-to skin booster for those who are slightly more mature. Naturally as we age, the production of collagen and elastin slows down, and the amount of hyaluronic acid (HA) in our skin decreases. This can cause the skin to lose elasticity and sag, creating the wrinkly appearance typically associated with old age.

What’s also great about Profhilo is that unlike Rejuran and Juvelook which requires about three sessions or more, you only need two sessions of Profilo spaced four weeks apart to see results, followed by a maintenance session every six months.
