Not merely because she has garnered high-profile fans the likes of Beyonce Knowles, Selena Gomez and Kylie Jenner, or even her exceptional background as a dealer of ethnographic jewellery and sculpture artist before she began creating her eponymous brand – but because of her approach to creating unapologetically loud statement pieces inspired by rich, unearthed antiquities. The famed “Despina” cuff is an example of the designer’s many armour-like designs. Inspired by pectoral rings worn by the Mayans during combat, this cuff represents a symbol of strength, and was also worn by Beyonce during the 2017 Grammy Awards.
