September’s birthstone is most recognised as the sapphire and the birthstone itself is also one of the most sought-after gems in the market for centuries. We won't deny it but these opulent-looking pieces are a great addition to any jewellery collection. But what does it represent? Well, for the unacquainted, the sapphire is believed to represent loyalty, truth, and romance.

Derived from the Greek word sappheiros, referring to a blue stone, the birthstone has been closely associated with royalty. Kings and queens in ancient Greece and Rome used to believe that anyone who owns a sapphire would be protected from harm and envy, and they were also thought to attract wealth. It’s a popular gemstone for engagement rings, especially in the royal family. It's no wonder that Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton with a 12-carat sapphire engagement ring in 2010 too.

But that's not all. In fact, sapphires were also believed to have healing powers, and it was said that it "helps to increase one’s overall health and strength".

While the birthstones commonly come in shades of blue, sapphires also come in shades of yellow and pink as well. Nevertheless, whatever shade it comes in, it still counts as a September birthstone.

If you're looking for a jewellery piece for your loved ones or even for yourself this month, we've got you covered. Ahead, we've rounded up some of the most beautiful sapphire pieces to get your hands on stat.
