While subtle, well-placed layers may seem understated, they can make a significant impact—especially if you’re looking to refresh your look without sacrificing length. Over time, this textured style has taken on various forms, from soft face-framing strands to shaggy, tapered ends. Recently, long layers that start at the chin and graze the neckline have been gaining popularity. Popularised by Blackpink’s Jennie, this striking cut features C-curls, feathered ends, and multiple layers beginning at the shoulders.

“The disconnected layers and high-layered cut are perfect for adding movement and volume, while creating that youthful, edgy vibe,” says Cejay Siew, Hairstuffsg stylist and Schwarzkopf Singapore’s Professional Artistic Ambassador, in an interview with Her World. “Layers inject energy into any hairstyle, making it feel fresh and modern.”

His top tip for perfecting the cut? Bring at least three reference photos. “This ensures that you and your stylist are aligned on the desired look, as even similar cuts can vary greatly depending on layering techniques and styling.”

Face-framing layers not only add texture and body but are especially beneficial for those with limp or fine hair, as they help create the illusion of fuller, thicker strands.

For styling, he recommends starting with a basic blow-dry to build volume, followed by a pass with a flat iron to lock in the shape. If you’re using hot tools, always prep your hair with a heat protectant. Cejay suggests using the OSIS Flatliner, then finishing with OSIS+ Velvet for a smooth, velvety finish.

Although this is a relatively low-maintenance style, shorter layers can become tricky to manage—especially in humid weather. That’s why the pro advises applying a lightweight hair serum like OSIS+ Glow to tame frizz and achieve a sleek, glass-like sheen.
