Blush is a staple in our makeup routines. It’s a quick fix for a radiant glow, especially if you’re pressed for time. Even so, you can take your blush game a step further by layering different formulas. Makeup artist Lasalle Lee reveals this makeup technique is becoming popular because more people are aware that blush layering adds depth and dimension to their cheeks.

Blush layering not only makes your makeup last longer but also helps to further contour and define your features. It allows you to create new colours to match your skin tone, the occasion or specific look you're going for.

“Blush layering is suitable for any occasion or face shape,” Lasalle shares. “As there are different blush layering techniques and face shapes, it's important to know where to shade to define, enhance and complement the face.”

While you can play around with different blush formulas and textures, Lasalle doesn't recommend layering cream blushers as they might melt, given Singapore's hot weather.

New to the trend? Here’s what you can do. Lasalle suggests achieving a more natural effect by layering a liquid or cream blush before putting on foundation, then finishing it off with a powder blush.

Dior has reinvented its iconic Rosy Glow Blush with a new formula and two new shades. The cult favourite was first introduced more than 10 years ago and this incarnation is also infused with the brand's Color Reviver technology, which reacts to the skin's moisture level and adds a natural, healthy glow. The two new shades are 012 Rosewood (a delicate pink) and 105 Cherry (a timeless red). They're packed in a case that matches its blush shade, with the Dior oblique pattern embossed on the powder.

Some days, you just want a sheer, translucent colour for a fresh look. Nudies Bloom will give your cheeks a natural flush and its non-sticky formula is also suitable for our scorching weather. The sticks are convenient to carry in your handbag, with a removable brush for easy application and blending. This blush is not just for your cheeks though, it's a multi-purpose product that can also be used for your lips and eyes.

The three pink shades in this blush collection are ideal as a base when you're layering your blush. They are enriched with subtle mother-of-pearl micro-particles, which gives them an iridescent finish. Plus, the blushes are soft and silky, so you'll also love how they feel on your skin.

Gucci Beauty Blush de Beaute is the brand's first blush that has been designed for buildable, long-lasting colour. It's infused with ingredients such as shea butter and hyaluronic acid, for a hydrating formula. The ultra-thin powder is also suitable for all skin types. Pick shade 09 Intense Plum, a darker but vibrant colour for a more daring top blush layer.
