Phoebe Philo's ardent fans who call themselves Philophiles have been waiting with bated breath since it was first announced in July 2021 that she will be designing her eponymous collection.

Some of the pieces has already been sold out despite the (not surprising) ludicrously high price point since it dropped on 30th October. This is partly due to the limited quantities (only 100 pieces per style) being produced for each collection as part of the brand's sustainability approach. Philo's first “edit” A1, is made up of 150 styles that will be released from now to December.

Her design ethos from her time in Celine till now has about always been about longevity. The brand released a statement on the collection stating: "Our aim is to create a product that reflects permanence. The Phoebe Philo business model is designed to create a responsible balance between production and demand. For us, this means producing notably less than anticipated want.”

If you regretted for not acquiring some notable pieces during her tenure at Celine, you'll be happy to know that this collection feels in many ways an extension of her work at the Parisian house where she was creative director from 2008 to 2017. Many of the looks were cemented on the idea of elegant yet directional and unexpected take on wardrobe classics. Some Philo favourites include her ingenious play with fringing, mannish tailoring, a chic biker jacket and a roll-neck sweater just to name a few.

We take a retrospective look at some of her hero pieces at Celine and identify what makes a classic Philo piece so you can make a wiser and more informed decision before you splurge on that coveted Philo masterpiece.
