You don’t have to get ready if you stay ready
The new year is in full swing and there’s no better time than the present for a little style update. With Spring/Summer 2024 collections beckoning, a new slew of trends will hit us soon from the latest it colour to the revival of niche fashion statements. Of course, we did the legwork to keep you looking like a trendsetter for the season ahead with a wide range of options — happy shopping.
You heard it here, fringe is in again. This playful boho trend was spotted on dresses, tops, blazers, skirts and bags from the likes of Bottega Veneta, Gucci and more. These mesmerising embellishments even went viral on social media; à la the metallic fringe belts from Prada. If you are looking to jazz up your closet, this trend is one to look into.
Sheer garb continues to have a choke hold on fashionistas worldwide and it looks like skirts are the newest obsession. Designers from the houses of Givenchy, Dior and Louis Vuitton gave the trend an update through layering to create dimension and it also made the skirts stand out without being too revealing.
It’s not turquoise, it’s not lapis and it’s actually not cerulean—it’s light blue. This cool and calming hue was seemingly everywhere during fashion week, from the runways of Fendi and Versace in Milan to Balmain in Paris and then some. The pastel hue certainly fits the season but more than that, it also looks good on a variety of skin tones.
The versatility of leather jackets and skirts was highlighted across many Spring/Summer 2024 runways such as the edgy faded and oversized jackets from Burberry, Celine’s casual yet chic cropped motorcycle jacket, and preppy co-ords from Miu Miu.
Flowers are an inevitable element of Spring/Summer fashion trends but it’s the interpretation and execution that matters. Chanel, Alexander McQueen and Acne Studios avoided the clichéd use of flowers through hypnotic prints and appliques to complement dresses and jumpsuits that exude romance.
Category is: curtain couture. Draped fashion has made a comeback and we are living for the goddess-like designs offered by Loewe, Chloé and Balenciaga. Yards of fabric in an array of patterns and colours are sculpted to accentuate the body while delivering maximum drama.
Utility dressing is a crowd favourite for three reasons: it’s comfortable, almost effortless and the multiple pockets are a game changer. Hermès and Saint Laurent showcased how avant garde this trend can be with dresses in technical fabric and cargo pencil skirts that cinch at the waist respectively, while Isabel Marant opted for the ultimate cool-girl route with an oversized cargo dress.
Look out, asymmetrical silhouettes with uneven necklines and hemlines are coming our way. It can be as simple as Valentino’s pink off-shoulder minidress, as daring as the caped look from Peter Do or as complex as the shirt-and-skirt combo from Dries Van Noten—the styling possibilities are endless.
