Whether it’s a new role or a fresh project, when Shu Qi debuts something, the world takes note. Case in point: she turned heads with her milky, translucent oval nails.

The Taiwanese actress and first-time director arrived in Venice on September 3 ahead of the 82nd International Film Festival for the premiere of her coming-of-age film Girl. Shu Qi embraced the minimalist “soap-inspired” manicure, a look popularised by stars like Hailey Bieber and Sofia Richie Grainge. This “less is more” approach first took over social media feeds (and nails) back in 2022.

Sporting an “off-duty” ribbed tank and jeans combo, Shu Qi’s barely-there manicure allowed all attention to fall on her accessories, particularly her arm candy, the Campana bag and Odyssey Intercciato cabin trolley from Bottega Veneta. The chic, neutral tones of the manicure perfectly flatter any skin tone and nail length.

Interestingly, Taylor Swift was also spotted with similarly clean, “my nails but better” manicure in her now-viral engagement post with Travis Kelce, making this soft, natural trend even more noteworthy.

The key to recreating this delicate, barely-there effect is choosing the right shade. Opt for a sheer, buildable color and apply in thin layers for a translucent finish—never full coverage. Finish with a glossy top coat for added shine and perfection.
