From seamless to lace: Finding the right bra for every outfit
Four bra styles, four different moods. Consider this your guide to getting your lingerie wardrobe in order.
By Lena Kamarudin -
I recently hosted a private bra styling workshop with Calvin Klein, where the conversation centred on something most of us wear every day but perhaps don’t give enough thought to: finding the right bra for the right outfit.
We started with a simple question: what actually makes a bra perfect? Is it the fit, the fabric, the support or, perhaps most importantly, how comfortable you feel wearing it?
Interestingly, a survey conducted by Calvin Klein with its guests found that comfort ranked first, followed by fit, fabric and support. It’s a reminder that while we might be drawn to a pretty design or a flattering silhouette, a bra ultimately has to work for us throughout the day.
But I also wanted to explore another consideration: how our choice of bra can change the way an outfit looks and feels. Because just as we have different shoes and bags for different occasions, our lingerie wardrobe deserves a little variety, too.
During the workshop, we explored four categories of bras, each serving a different purpose, from creating an invisible foundation to making lingerie part of the look itself.
The One That Disappears: Perfect Fit
Perfectly Fit Lightly Lined Demi Bra, $119
Every wardrobe needs a reliable T-shirt bra. You know the one: it creates a smooth silhouette under fitted tops, doesn’t show unwanted lines and lets your clothes take centre stage.
The Calvin Klein Perfectly Fit collection offers different options depending on the coverage and shaping you prefer. The Lightly Lined Cup is a wirefree push-up style that offers a little lift and definition, while the Full Coverage version comes without padding for those who prefer a more natural feel and fuller coverage.
The styling test? A fitted white tank top or classic T-shirt. When your outfit calls for clean lines, the last thing you want is your bra competing for attention.
The Natural One: Lace

Of course, not every bra needs to be invisible. Sometimes, lingerie can be an intentional part of your outfit.
The Calvin Klein lace collection offers two different silhouettes: a lightly lined triangle with satin-lined cups for a softer, more natural shape, and a lightly lined balconette for greater lift and definition.
Both styles share delicate lace detailing, but create different effects. Wear the triangle under an open shirt or leather jacket for a relaxed, subtly sensual look, or choose the balconette when you want a little more structure under your clothes.
It’s a reminder that lingerie doesn’t always have to be hidden. With the right styling, it can be part of the fashion story.
The One You Barely Feel: Invisibles
Invisibles Lightly Lined Triangle Bra, $119
For days when comfort and a barely-there feel take priority, there’s Calvin Klein’s Invisibles collection.
Made with smooth microfiber and comfortable stretch, these styles are designed to stay unnoticed under clothing. The Invisible Microfiber Stretch Lift Triangle features lightly padded triangle cups that create natural-looking cleavage, with mesh panels at the front and back adding a subtle sensual detail.
Another lightly lined triangle option offers an alternative within the collection.
Think fitted tops, workwear and everyday outfits where you want a clean finish without giving too much thought to what’s underneath.
The Icon: CK Icon Cotton Modal

And then there’s the Calvin Klein logo bra, a style that has become an icon in its own right.
This season, the CK Icon Cotton Modal collection introduces two new interpretations. The Wireless Push Up in baby pink offers lift and definition without the use of underwire, combining a shaped silhouette with a more relaxed, wirefree feel.
Meanwhile, the Script Lift Bralette features fuller coverage and a fresh take on the familiar CK branding. Its cursive lettering brings a softer, more feminine touch to the collection’s otherwise sporty aesthetic.
Both styles are a reminder that an everyday bra can be comfortable and functional while still having plenty of personality.
So, what makes the perfect bra?
After exploring the four categories, my biggest takeaway is that there isn’t one bra that does everything. A seamless style might be your go-to under a fitted T-shirt, while a lace triangle feels right under an open jacket. On other days, you might prioritise the barely-there comfort of microfiber or reach for the familiar ease of a CK logo bralette.
The best bra is ultimately the one that works for your body, your outfit and how you want to feel that day.
Perhaps it’s time we gave our lingerie wardrobes the same consideration we give the rest of our clothes.
