Beauty lovers have been waiting with bated breath since French luxury house Louis Vuitton first teased its venture into colour cosmetics with swatches of lipsticks and eyeshadows. Expanding beyond its perfumes and coveted vanity pouches, the maison now enters the makeup arena with none other than legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath as creative director.

For its debut, La Beauté unveils LV Rouge, a collection of 55 lipsticks spanning nudes, pinks, and reds, offered in 27 satin and 28 matte finishes. Each is infused with shea butter and hyaluronic acid for a plush, hydrating feel. Complementing the lineup is Le Baume, ten glossy tinted lip balms that deliver both nourishment and a sheer wash of colour. For the eyes, La Beauté presents eight quads of versatile shadows in matte and shimmering textures.

The question is: does Louis Vuitton’s first foray into makeup live up to the hype? We put the collection to the test. Here’s our honest review.

One swipe delivers rich, even pigment, while the flat, curved bullet makes it easy to trace the lip line for a precise finish, no brush required. For a natural everyday look, a single coat suffices, but the colour builds beautifully for more intensity. The formula feels featherlight on the lips, yet impressively long-lasting; it holds up through eating and drinking and fades into a soft, flattering stain.

There’s a faint floral fragrance, though subtle enough not to overwhelm. The refillable design is another highlight: not only is the case weighty and luxurious, but swapping shades is seamless—just twist and pop the refill in. Unlike other refillable lipsticks I’ve tried (where things get messy or fragile), this one makes the process effortless.

The priciest piece in La Beauté, these eyeshadow quads are housed in compacts reminiscent of cushion foundations, complete with a built-in mirror for convenience. The embossed monogram case is undeniably elegant, though on the heavier side, something to consider if you plan to carry it for touch-ups.

Most quads lean neutral, but there’s always a twist, like the pop of fuchsia in Monogram Rouge. Those who prefer cooler tones can turn to Sky Is The Limit (a medley of blues) or Cosmic Dreams (lavender-to-violet hues). The shadows themselves are ultra-finely milled, blend seamlessly, and layer beautifully without ever veering into harsh or overdone territory.

Like the lipsticks, the palettes are refillable, with the added option of swapping out quads for a touch of customisation. That said, the mechanism isn’t quite as intuitive. After opening the compact using the clasp on the back, you’ll need to remove the old refill, carefully align the new one, and click it into place.

These tinted formulas deliver impressive colour payoff, a rarity for products marketed as lip balms. They glide on buttery-smooth, softening the appearance of lip lines for a more polished finish. My favourite shade, Tender Bliss, is a luminous shimmer that works beautifully on its own or as a glossy topper layered over lipstick for extra dimension and shine.

As someone with chronically dry, chapped lips, I rarely reach for matte formulas — but LV Rouge Matte has completely won me over. If I could only pick one product from the collection, it would be the LV Rouge Matte Lipstick Refill in 203 Rose Odyssée ($94). The formula glides on creamy and soft, delivering a blurred, just-bitten finish without settling into lip lines. For best results, I’d suggest dabbing it on rather than swiping, and slightly overlining for that effortless, pouty effect
