A step-by-step guide to achieving Wen Yifan’s dream girl beauty look—now all you need is a Sang Yan

By now, you’ve probably seen clips of the popular coming-of-age C-drama The First Frost, starring Bai Jingting (as Sang Yan) and Zhang Ruonan (as Wen Yifan), on your FYP.
In this 32-episode Youku series, which is available for streaming on Netflix, Sang Yan and Wen Yifan are high school sweethearts who reunite six years later. Their relationship is put to the test when they start living together.
A spin-off of the widely successful romance drama Hidden Love, this binge-worthy series has captivated audiences worldwide. While the heart-pounding plot keeps us on the edge of our seats, Zhang Ruonan’s ethereal “First Love” hair and makeup are equally mesmerising.
Loose waves with added volume at the crown create a soft, sophisticated vibe. To achieve this look, curl your hair with a curling iron, then gently brush it out with a comb for a tousled, effortlessly chic finish.
While Wen Yifan regularly sports the no-makeup makeup look, she likes to add a pop of color with a bold lip. There are multiple ways to rock a bright lippie, but the blotted, smudged finish that Wen Yifan wears might just be our favorite. Follow her lead by swiping on your favorite matte lippie, then use your ring finger to diffuse the color all over and softly blend the edges of your pout.
Even if you’re skipping eyeliner à la zhang Ruonan, you still want some kind of definition to frame your peepers. To mimic her voluminous and fanned out lashes, we recommend sticking individual lashes – keep them as close to your lash line as possible for a natural finish. Finally, amp up the drama with a coat of volumising mascara.
Wen Yifan’s bushy, full brows perfectly complement her cherubic face. If you’re not naturally blessed with thick arches, you can fill yours in with an eyebrow pencil.
If you’re not ready to go bare, you can even out your skin tone while still achieving an imperceptible, seamless finish with a lightweight tinted moisturizer. Applying a primer underneath can also help reduce the appearance of pores, giving you smooth, porcelain-like skin—just like Zhang Ruonan’s.
