Subtle not sexy

Welcome to our Ask the Expert column where we answer all your fashion conundrums.

This month we talk about about the risque sheer bottoms. Usually seen as a sexy piece of garment, we want to shift your focus on how to style it in a more conservative fashion.

An oversized blazer will do the trick

The extra large fit of the blazer or jacket will add a more masculine appeal to the femininity and sexiness of a sheer skirt. Make sure the length is long enough so it’ll discreetly cover your rear end. A belted blazer (because it needs to be buttoned and belted up), as opposed to a classic blazer, is also a more conservative and flattering choice. (Pic credit: Showbit)

Tuck an extra-long shirt in

Take advantage of the statement sheer skirt by tucking your button-down shirt inside so you can see the hem. The overall effect of tucking in a shirt into your sheer skirt may be slightly subversive but it still looks incredibly polished. (Pic credit: Carven Spring/Summer 2024)

Sheer trousers are less sexy than skirts

Perhaps it’s because trousers are typically a men’s wardrobe staple, a pair of sheer trousers may be easier to style in a modest fashion. You can choose to either wear a pair of boy shorts underneath, tights or stockings. (Pic credit: Showbit)

Double up your bottoms

Experiment layering your sheer skirts with a mini skirt for an interesting take on this trend. It also gives your mini skirts more mileage and creates a totally different look at the same time. (Pic credit: Showbit)
