Danish footwear brand Ecco celebrates 60 years of producing innovative comfortable footwear. For the uninitiated this European brand also prides itself as a company that makes leather at its own tanneries and produces shoes at their own factories. Currently the brand has tanneries and factories in 6 locations across the globe in Europe and Asia.

When Karl Toosbuy founded Ecco in 1963 in Bredebro, Denmark, he was focused on his vision of producing the most comfortable walking shoes in the world. At age 17, Toosbuy started as an apprentice in the shoe industry and since then he had always had a singular vision which was to make functional, comfortable shoes designed to fit the foot.

Of course, the rest is history and Toosbuy successfully transformed that idea into the global shoe brand Ecco. He died in 2004 but his legend lives on in his company, as his daughter Hanni Toosbuy Kasprzak, sits as the chairman and owner of Ecco. The privately held firm is still based in Bredebro and the brand is very proud that till today, despite being one of the largest shoe manufacturers in the world, they continue to own and manage every step of the shoemaking process.
