This masculine-meets-feminine look gets a fresh new eclectic twist, as seen on the runways at Chanel and Johanna Ortiz. But how do we translate this look from runway to real life?

We put these stylish women to the test by asking them to assemble an outfit for their sibling or friend from Pre-Fall 2023’s biggest trends.

Your thoughts on this trend?

NICOLE (N): It’s giving me an early 2000s vibe, but in a feminine and utilitarian way. The look is great for people who are generally not girly, but who want to wear skirts in their own way.

SALINA (S): I personally love the skirt-over-trousers trend. There’s a nice balance of masculinity and femininity, and being playful and reserved at the same time.

Why did you choose this outfit for each other?

N: Salina is the epitome of timeless classic meets modern cuts with neutral tones. She takes classic items and adds an unexpected twist, which makes the look modern and fun.

S: Nicole is someone who is not afraid to try new looks. She is edgy and always willing to take fashion risks. I chose this ensemble as it closely represents her personal style and personality – fun, edgy and futuristic.

In your opinion, is this a wearable, everyday look?

N: Once you nail the proportions and fabric choice, you can make the trend work for smart or casual occasions.

Do you like how you were styled?

N: I love that I can still rock a pair of oversized jeans with a skirt. The Versace dress that transforms into a top is totally genius. It’s the perfect blend of feminine and masculine.

S: I personally love a neutral palette and mixing denim jeans with something out of the ordinary. I love the mixture of textures – denim, knit and leather, with a touch of gold hardware.

STYLE TIP: Keep to a similar colour palette when layering with this trend, so the pieces won’t look too jarring when paired with each other.
