 Duchess Kate engagement ring

The whole world certainly went gaga over sapphire diamond rings when Duchess Kate first wore her now famous rock in 2010, a gem that originally belonged to the late Princess Diana.

And she’s far from the only famous face wearing an unusual engagement ring; we’ve also seen a more recent deluge of Hollywood stars including Olivia Wilde and Mary-Kate Olsen wearing more non-traditional wedding options.

So why not go big on colour, for that prized dream gem. While most women can only dream about wearing such hefty jewels on their hands, there’s no harm in ogling a bit of bejewelled eye candy.

That’s the sentiment I’m feeling when I look at this sparkler, from the Chaumet Liens high jewellery ring collection.

Make your dream engagement ring a colourful one, Chaumet

When over 140 brilliant-cut diamonds are playing second fiddle to a precious stone, you know you’re looking at a definite stunner (and a small fortune) here. It’s available for the staggering price of $340,000; but bear with me, since we’re still on the topic of dream engagement rings.

A stunning 5.29-carat padparadscha sapphire is set against Chaumet’s signature intertwining “liens” diamond-set ring, to bring out the full glitter of this rare pink-orange stone. And just so you know: Padparadscha is the Sinhalese name for the lotus blossom, the flower that this precious gem shares such similar colours with.

If pink is not quite your colour — since we’re already talking in terms of a wishlist — look to two other captivating rings from the Chaumet Liens high jewellery collection.

When you’re at loss for colour descriptives, look to nature. The “Jonquille” yellow diamond on this Chaumet ring is named after the Narcissus flower (commonly known as daffodils). And it sure does sparkle, when set against the 144 brilliant cut diamonds on the Chaumet Liens band.

Accentuated by 147 brilliant-cut diamonds, this lustrous emerald ring makes it more than apparent why Shakespeare considered envy the “green-eyed monster”. It’s certainly what I’m feeling here, towards any owner of this prized gem!

The Chaumet Liens high jewellery line is now available at Chaumet boutiques in Singapore at Ion Orchard, #02-02 and The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, #B1-93.
