If a silk scarf is just a square piece of accessory to you, the folks at Dior may want to convince you otherwise. For a start, there is an artisanal aspect to how silk foulards are created at the maison.

Consider this: First, the artwork or sketch is pen-engraved onto fabric before being unfurled on silk through a process of silkscreen or inkjet printing. The silk goes through a steam bath repeatedly, before getting successive washes. Finally, it is hand cut then frayed or roll as a finishing touch.

For its latest Fall/Winter 2021 blitz the house gets compulsive with highlighting how its silk foulards can transform your wardrobe. Besides pairing about 20 per cent of the runway looks with silk headscarves, the brand has now released a series of images shot by longtime collaborator Brigitte Niedermair that serves as an unofficial primer on how to style your silk scarf.

And to give you a taste of how a Dior scarf can look on you and be styled, the house has also launched a face filter that can be used on Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook and the web browser for you to toy with four different scarf permutations.
