Since her breakthrough role as Gao Jieyu in Unriddle 2 (2012), Singaporean celeb Rebecca Lim (who was also our June cover star) has steadily and surely etched into the minds of people here, and is pretty much a household name. But besides her commendable acting chops that have garnered her two Best Actress wins at Mediacorp’s Star Awards, Becks, as she is often affectionately called, is also a fashionista.

Classy, feminine and never boring, we celebrate Rebecca’s 34th birthday (Sept 26) by showing you five ways you can cop her style. Happy birthday Rebecca!

You don't need heels to look polished

1/10

The actress proved that you can still look formal, boardroom-ready and have sky-high confidence even in a pair of flats. Opt for pointed like these Roger Vivier flats. Go for black ones so you can turn it into a staple that matches any outfit.

Don't be afraid to wear leather in Singapore

2/10

Or pleather for that matter. Yes, it can get hot and stuffy in Singapore's weather, but it's not too bad if you opt for a pleated skirt like what Rebecca is wearing. We love how she complemented the pleats with a puffy-sleeved top to play with volume.

You can wear a handbag with athleisure

3/10

Most people would shy away from pairing handbags with athleisure, but there's no reason why you should. The Dior Bobby bag comes with adjustable straps so you can lengthen it to wear as a crossbody. But there's nothing stopping you from complementing this look with a baguette bag either.

Wear gold from head to toe

4/10

We know what you're thinking: "Won't I look like a walking gold jewellery?" Well, yes and no. Instead of yellow gold, opt for something that's more of a champagne tone (or deeper gold, depending on your skin tone) so it looks close to nude. Rebecca matched two shades of gold in two finishes (one with a metallic sheen and one glittery) and looked like the gold standard. Love it!

Dress up your overalls

5/10

Think overalls are only for kids? Think again. Instead of layering it with a tee, make it dressier with a nice top, like this puff-sleeved ones Rebecca wore. You could even go for textured sleeves if you want to go bolder.

Bling it up for important events

6/10

Who says you can’t wear sequins in the day? Rebecca is here to challenge that notion with this sparkly black sequin mini dress she wore to a Mercedes Benz event (she is its brand ambassador). We also love how the ruffled details around the neck and wrists add a touch of geek chic to balance out the glamorous sequins. Bonus: You can skip accessorising as the dress is already a showstopper.

Black ain’t boring

7/10

little black dress is one of those fashion essentials we can always depend on to look snatched. But if we’re looking to spice up the perennial favourite, take a cue from Rebecca who opted for a piece with interesting details such as the ruffle trimming and the overlapping panel and slit to keep things interesting and stylish — not that she can ever looks anything less.

Upgrade your pantsuits

8/10

By now, we should all be familiar with the transformative power and confidence that a sharp pantsuit gives. Here, Rebecca kicks it up a sartorial notch by going with a navy striped co-ord set from Sandro. Vertical stripes are not only a way to inject colour to an outfit, they also have a lengthening effect — in this case, her ensemble makes her look even lankier and slimmer. Moral of the story: Ditch the typical black, grey or navy pantsuits and opt for playful alternatives such as those with stripes, prints or bold colours.

A bag can instantly jazz up an outfit

9/10

We know, designer bags cost a pretty penny. But in exchange for paying more, you’re guaranteed a bag that’s a) well-designed and well-made and b) can instantly upgrade any outfit. Just look at how Rebecca’s pale pink 30 Montaigne bag from Dior stood out against a mild cream and printed ensemble. And you can tell that Rebecca invests in luxury handbags too — scroll through her Instagram feed and you’ll find that she has carried various designs from Dior, Gucci and Kate Spade.

Make your legs look longer

10/10

Becks is by no means a short woman (she’s 1.66m tall). But in this photo, she looks like she could pass off as one of the towering models who stomp the runways of Milan or Paris. She achieved that silhouette by pairing a cropped top that ends above the belly button with a sleek pair of high-waisted wide-legged trousers. The pair of pants especially, helps create an illusion of longer legs as it creates a continuous vertical perspective — simple yet effective.
