It’s easy to get confused by the fashion calendar and its seasons: Spring/Summer, Couture, Prefall, Fall/Winter and Resort, and it’s also safe to assume that only two of them are relevant to us living in the tropics (they’re obviously Spring Summer and Resort).

But with the recent resort collections that have showed and the perennial classics that appear every season (the kaftan dress, the meditarranean stripes and the louche pieces), you’re going to be surprised by the variety of shoe styles that have appeared which you wouldn’t assume from a getaway wardrobe chock full of sneakers or beachy sandals.

Chanel's Holster Heel

Virginie Viard’s maiden collection at the historic house of Chanel has all the classics of a Chanel collection - the costume pearl jewellery, boucle cardigans and romantic tiered dresses.

But this makes these holster heels all the more surprising: they wrap sexily around the ankle like a corset and its patent holster makes it even more striking against a neutral white pump.

Coach's Downtown Stompers

They’re a bit of a head scratcher because after all, they are the marriage of thongs + a platform which have different sensibilities,  but you can’t deny that these shoes don’t have street appeal either.

Gucci’s Grandma Clogs

Jil Sander’s Floor Sweepers

You wouldn’t think of excess and frivolity when it comes to Jil Sander but look down and you’ll find that these pair of strappy sandals are very party-in-the-front thanks to an explosion of oversized tassles.

The Kate Spade woman is planning to party a lot this festive season and she’s really going all out based on what we’ve seen from the Resort collection - the ruched slinky party dresses, the OTT embellished bags and the fun deco jewellery.

But we’re zoning in to these cutie-pie Barbie inspired shoes instead thanks to its embellished buckle, pink sequins and heart shaped cut out.

Michael Kors' Punk Pushers

You’d never expect something so rough and aggressive from Michael Kors because after all, he’s the designer of jet-set style but that’s what makes these creepers even more appealing.

Jeremy Scott’s favourite eras when designing are always the eras when we had the most fun and he’s taking us back to the syrupy ‘80s with these platforms - dayglo green aka the colour we wore on our athletic headbands and tracksuits, and a good chunky platform that we wore to clubs to flashdance.

Prada’s 2.0 Sock Sneakers

These aren’t the sock sneakers you’re accustomed to that are sleek, athletic and cling snugly to your ankles. These are ones instead that look ugly which is exactly why we like them and aren’t surprised they’re from the kitschy mind of Miuccia Prada.

Tthe faded yellow and green are reminiscent of ‘70s gym sneakers and the high socks are very ‘80s Jane Fonda which is why we like them so much.
