Take the uber feminine coquette style and throw in the sporty kits worn by the blokes – and you will end up with one of the most talked about fashion aesthetic on TikTok right now

In a conventional world, ribbons, mini skirts and kitten heels will never be mentioned in the same sentence as rugby jerseys and soccer trainers. But fashion is thriving in a non-binary world and the TikTok algorithm is serving a new aesthetic to know faster than you can say, “core”. Indeed, this mash-up of hyper-feminine styles with sports gear such as jerseys and sweatshirts is exactly what blokettecore is all about.

The origins of the term is largely attributed to podcaster Alexi Alario, who coined it in Oct last year. But of late, Gen Zers have turned it into somewhat of a sleeper hit on TikTok, with 37 million recorded hashtags as of press time. In a recent interview with Coveteur, Alario said that she used the term after “noticing fashion girls styling vintage sportswear, especially Adidas, in really whimsical and girly ways, spearheaded by perennial trendsetter Bella Hadid.”

While Hadid may be the patron saint of the movement, labels such as Martine Rose and Wales Bonner have been, ahem, long-time champions of the style. If you’re still new to blokette chic, consider the outfit combinations we have assembled below as the perfect wardrobe primer.
