What can you wear to work and in the weekends? Little Black Book is a column where we dish out the cool and cult brands that champion versatility and effortless dressing.

The brand

Former investigative journalist and TV producer Gaelle Drevet opened The Frankie Shop’s flagship brick-and-mortar boutique in 2014 in New York City’s Lower East Side, before launching her online store in 2016. After living in NYC for 25 years, the Franco-American returned to Paris in 2017, and established her first Parisian store in the chic Marais neighbourhood. The brand quickly rose to fame with its directional designs that are elegant, minimal and androgynous.

The low-down

The popularity of The Frankie Shop soared after its online launch in 2014. According to The Business of Fashion, which coined it “Instagram’s Favourite Brand” in 2022, the brand yielded net sales of US$40
million ($53 million) that year. Gaelle’s philosophy has always been to design with longevity in mind, hence the conceptualisation of the brand’s signature oversized blazers. Bestsellers include the oversized Bea blazer and Eva T padded shoulder muscle tee – designs that have been restocked several times and are never on sale.

What else

The brand’s mission is to always put the woman first by making stylish workwear affordable and accessible. In line with its commitment to equip women with the know-how to style up their outfits, The Frankie Shop offers a dedicated section called “Everyday Formula” on its website, where pieces are edited into looks that you can throw on (and still look super chic) every day. Prices start from $90.
