The 2025 Met Gala, themed “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”, invited guests to reinterpret the art of classic menswear through the lens of cultural pride and personal expression. And while the evening honoured Black sartorial history, it also became a defining moment for Asian representation on fashion’s biggest stage. From Shah Rukh Khan’s Mughal-inspired glamour to Diljit Dosanjh’s regal ode to Punjabi identity and S.Coups’ reimagining of the hanbok, these Asian men transformed tailoring into a stunning narrative of heritage and artistry.
Diljit Dosanjh
Diljit Dosanjh commanded attention in a regal custom look by Prabal Gurung that wove together Punjabi identity and couture-level detail. His ivory sherwani-inspired angrakha, paired with a matching turban crowned by a kalgi and white plume, evoked the quiet majesty of Sikh royalty, while a sweeping cape embroidered with the Mool Mantra in Gurmukhi and a golden map of Punjab turned the ensemble into a walking tribute to his heritage. Statement jewellery – layered emeralds, rubies, and pearls echoing the historic Patiala necklace – brought a rich, archival weight to the look, alongside a ceremonial kirpan that honoured Sikh tradition.
Both reverent and resplendent, the outfit offered a powerful South Asian lens on dandyism, earning Dosanjh widespread praise for expanding the narrative of what tailored elegance can look like on the global stage.
Henry Golding
Henry Golding turned heads at the 2025 Met Gala in a gleaming gold three-piece suit custom-made by British-Ghanaian designer Ozwald Boateng, whose sharp tailoring and bold palette gave classic menswear a luminous upgrade. The ensemble – consisting of a structured jacket, matching waistcoat, and tailored trousers – was tempered with a sleek black shirt that grounded the look in elegance.
On his wrist, The Crazy Rich Asians heart throb wore a rose-gold Cartier Tank à Guichet, a rare, minimalist timepiece from 1928 that recently saw a revival – an intentional flex from the seasoned watch collector. Effortlessly straddling refinement and flair, his look was a standout interpretation of the night’s theme earning him nods as one of the gala’s best-dressed.
Shah Rukh Khan
At the 2025 Met Gala, Shah Rukh Khan made a regal debut in a custom Sabyasachi ensemble that blended Indian opulence with precise tailoring. His floor-length coat, crafted from Tasmanian superfine wool and detailed with monogrammed horn buttons and wide peak lapels, projected sculptural grace, while a black crepe de Chine silk shirt – left open at the chest – and tailored trousers added softness and fluidity.
A pleated satin kamarbandh offered a nod to Indian formalwear, cinching the waist with quiet strength. Layered talismanic chains, a crystal-studded pendant, and a diamond star brooch added symbolic gravitas, while a Bengal tiger head cane embedded with brilliant-cut diamonds anchored the look in refined power.
Dao Yi-Chow, seen with Maxwell Osborne and Justin Jefferson
Dao Yi-Chow delivered a sharply honed take on dandyism in a tailored black suit layered over a crisp white shirt and punctuated with an oversized bow tie – a silhouette that paid homage to classic menswear while deliberately veering into playful, avant-garde territory. A silver chain draped across his torso lent a dose of streetwise edge, a nod to his Public School roots and the enduring interplay between luxury and urban style. Anchored in monochrome, the look let its textures and proportions do the talking, reflecting Chow’s ability to fold cultural commentary into minimalist codes.
S.Coups
S.Coups, the first SEVENTEEN member to attend the Met Gala, made an impression in a hanbok-inspired ensemble by BOSS that quietly honoured Korean tradition while embracing the language of contemporary tailoring. Dressed in a tonal grey palette, the look layered a mandarin-collared shirt beneath a softly structured suit and a sweeping evening coat, creating a silhouette that was both grounded and romantic. The understated styling, including a minimalist watch and ash-blonde curtain bangs in true K-pop fashion, kept the focus on the garment’s exquisite craftsmanship and its subtle nods to hanbok-inspired tailoring, allowing both technique and tradition to take centre stage.
Shou Zi Chew, seen with his wife, Vivian Kao
Singaporean-born Shou Zi Chew, CEO of TikTok, embraced timeless elegance in a classic black tuxedo, paired with a bow tie and immaculately polished lace-ups. Though minimalist in detail, his look reflected the Met Gala’s celebration of refined tailoring and personal expression.
