Loewe x "My Neighbour Totoro" unveil a super whimsical capsule collection

Featuring your favourite grey furry creature on Loewe's bags and ready-to-wear pieces

Fans of Studio Ghibli's My Neighbour Totoro, you're in for a real treat. Spanish luxury brand, Loewe has just unveiled a new capsule collection and it features your favourite grey furry creature. Set to debut this January, the range incorporates iconic and adorable characters from the cult favourite film and whimsical backdrops on Loewe's bags and ready-to-wear pieces.

Now if you've watched the film back in the day, you'd be well familiar with the adorable characters and the beautiful plot that we've come to love. A cultural landmark beloved by children and adults, this meaningful collaboration celebrates the values shared by LOEWE and My Neighbor Totoro, with their love for nature, the outdoors and a sense of perpetual invention. Besides, what better way to show your love for the film than by wearing it, right?

Here, the band of wood spirits and the fantasy landscapes that they inhabit are skillfully interpreted as prints. Meanwhile, both Totoro and the Soot Spirits take centre stage in this collection — with Loewe’s Crossbody bags and classic Hammock bags featuring Totoro on the front. Exuding a distinctively youthful air through four main motifs, expect loose volume and relaxed silhouettes that come in the form of T-shirts and hooded sweatshirts to jumpers and culottes, and even biker jackets.

Boasting LOEWE’s renowned leather marquetry or as some may call it, the ‘intarsia’ technique, the adorable forest spirit animals are creatively worked onto iconic handbags such as the Puzzle and Hammock, alongside other small leather goods. As compared to the other pieces in the collection, this line will feature a brighter colour palette that's accented by the use of neutral tan.

Other notable pieces include the whimsical printed t-shirts that are emblazoned with Totoro motifs and embroidery details.

Dust Bunnies

Fronting this line is none other than the Dust Bunnies themselves. Set against the neutral tan palette, the dust bunnies stand out with iconic textured motifs and embroidery giving it an extra dimension to your look. This extensive line will include signature handbags and small leather goods such as the Balloon Bag and Basket Bag.

 

Landscapes

Inspired by the Sayama Hills, the beauty of the forest and its whimsical tranquillity fronts this line of ready-to-wear pieces that showcase the landscapes of the film with forest creatures embroidered or painted on by hand.

 

Magic Tree

If you've watched the film, then you would know of the Camphor tree that Totoro is usually found napping in. Here, the magic tree is reinterpreted in this line in the form of a tote bag and in its ready-to-wear line which sees relaxed and elongated silhouettes.

One of the most notable pieces to name would have to be the sweater. Think — textured jacquard mixed with different yarns, topped with an adorable Totoro embroidered patch applied by hand to evoke the sense of Totoro resting on the tree itself.
