With fashion month over, we’ve been keeping you updated with the scoop on fall/winter 2020 trends. We've broken down the biggest clothing trends for fall, and here we spotlight the emerging shoe trends of the upcoming season.

Remember the square toe shoe trend which have since gained major traction amongst influencers and editors alike?

Next season, you'll see a slightly different iteration of the square toe. Think: tapered angular side edges which give rise to a shape familiar to most as the “coffin-shaped manicure”.

And that’s not all, for die-hard softies who are thrilled by the recently embraced fluffy-and-cozy-everything trend bolstered by shearling collars and soft padded bags, you’re about to be extra pampered with the fuzzy furry kicks.

Fans of bright colours would love the fun energetic leather boots seen at Proenza Schouler and Victoria Beckham.

Last but not least, flatform boots, gold chains and steel toes ran rampant through fashion month, signalling a strong comeback for the punk movement.

Check out the most exciting footwear trends to look forward to come fall season:

Steel-toes: Louis Vuitton

Associated with certain major subcultures such as the skinheads or punks back in the ‘60s and ‘70s, the steel-toed boot has gained itself a niche following over the years. That’s all about to change this fall 2020. Seen at Miu Miu, spike-studded steel toe caps finished otherwise-dainty bow-strapped mary-jane pumps in sweet pastels such as white and baby blue. Louis Vuitton had a kitten-heel pointed toe pump with a reflective metallic toe.

Fashion’s obsession with staying comfy does not seem to be waning anytime soon. Just as we thought there was no way we could push the soft and cushy tactile agenda beyond padded bags and shearling coats, fluffy textured shoes are apparently going to be a thing for fall. Marques Almeida covered pointed toe knee-high boots in bright purple and blue ombre fur.

During the last few seasons, designers such as JW Anderson have made shoving baggy trouser pants into ankle straps a thing. This fall, we’re seeing a new and evolved rendition of the styling trick in the form of cinched boots. At Jil Sander, a soft buttery leather boot with an opened heel had suede ribbon ties snaking around and scrunching up the fabric around the ankles, giving rise to an effortlessly modern and minimalist number we’d imagine would pair well with voluminous white cotton poplin dresses for the office.

Shoes embellished with chain accents appeared to be quite prominent across the FW 20 runway shows. Come to think of it, jewellery for the feet has been a huge trend as of late – what with the return of anklets, and big dazzling embellishments and charms hanging off of shoes from Simone Rocha and Loewe. Ulla Johnson bedecked glossy boots and sandals with puffy knotted straps with chunky gilded chains.
