Rihanna is one of the most iconic superstars of our time.
Apart from her impressive track record in the music industry, she has had a few stellar achievements as well. From the launch of iconic brands, such as Fenty Beauty and Savage x Fenty, that promote the notion of inclusivity to starring in movies like Ocean’s 8 (2018) that translates a subtle message about female empowerment, this #badgal seems to be trying to make a positive impact where she can.
With such a big personality, it is no wonder that she is seen in the most ostentatious, over-the-top outfits all the time.
Here, we round up eight of her craziest, yet fashionable looks ever, ranking from the least to the most ostentatious. If it isn’t dramatic enough, then it isn’t Rihanna at all.

8. The Beauty, sans the Beast, look
image
Perhaps she drew inspiration from the 2017 movie Beauty and the Beast, but what got us obsessed with this outfit is its cheery colour. Rihanna wore a yellow cropped long sleeve top (that’s actually tied with a knot) with a matching yellow satin skirt that sports a long train at the launch of Fenty Beauty in Brooklyn in 2017.
Could this outfit also be a subtle take on her belief of female empowerment (since she did not show up with her drop dead gorgeous and super wealthy boyfriend Hassan Jameel)? Probably. After all, who needs a man?… Or a beast?
7. The out-of-bed, but somehow chic, look
image
Not so much in line with the idea of “outrageous”, but what we love about this ensemble is how Rihanna was able to manipulate simple garbs to create an OTT look. Pictured here is her in a white bodysuit that was styled with a pair of alabaster mules and an oversized duvet coat. It’s very Maison Martin Margiela, therefore, very fashion.
6. The outfit that encapsulates Rihanna's character
image
If you’re up-to-date with social media (or even one week without it à la Meghan Markle style), you should know that Rihanna has a penchant for ridiculous, voluminous gowns. This outfit, where she juxtaposed her Molly Goddard blue multi-tiered tulle gown with a pair of casual white sneakers, succinctly captured Rihanna’s love for OTT ensembles, as well as her personality. She lives up to her #badgalriri name.
“Casual,” was part one of her caption on Instagram. “Tuesday,” it continued with another image of the same outfit. Nothing fancy over here, just casual.
5. The "Take a Bow" jumpsuit
image
Rihanna’s Diamond Ball is a fundraising gala that raises money on behalf of the Clara Lionel Foundation, which is a charity organisation founded by hers truly. And at the fourth annual rendition of it, she showed up in an Alexis Mabille Couture jumpsuit that features a gargantuan white satin bow at the front.
Did her outfit, once again, stole the show? Or did her Chopard jewellery overshadowed her garb? We leave that for you to decide.
4. The red dress that broke the Internet
image
We’re not lying: This Giambattista Valli vermilion red gown that Rihanna wore at the London premiere of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017) broke the Internet. Memes were created (ICYMI, the meme has the word “Google” plastered across her, well, chest) and critics had varying opinions about it.
Of course, she didn’t care. “Eyes up here” was her caption on Instagram. Nevertheless, we loved how stunning she looked. Plus, the number flaunted her assets really well. What’s there not to like?
3. The Pope Ensemble
image
Last year’s Met Gala was all about firsts for Rihanna. She co-chaired the show alongside Amal Clooney and Donatella Versace, and had decided to change her career to become a Pope. We’re kidding about the latter.
Jokes aside, RiRi did resemble an actual Pope at the “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” exhibition when she showed up at the red carpet in a Maison Margiela strapless mini dress, an oversized coat and a bejewelled three-tiered headdress. After all, the Catholic Church’s leader is the perfect embodiment for Met Gala 2018’s theme, and RiRi knew where to gather her #OOTD inspiration from.
2. Pretty Pink Petals
image
It’s all about the glam and the gams for Rihanna at 2017’s Met Gala. Titled Comme des Garcons/Rei Kawakubo: Art Of The In-Between, it was only appropriate (and adequate enough) for RiRi to show up in Rei’s designs — she chose this Fall 2016 runway look as her attire.
Till this day, we’re still wondering how she went to the bathroom in that outfit.
1. The Omelette Dress
image
Yet another gown that gave rise to tons of memes and granting its “omelette” title, there’s literally no reason as to why this gorgeous cape made it to the top of our list. Created by Chinese fashion designer Guo Pei, Rihanna stole the show at the red carpet of Met Gala in 2015. After all, yellow was once a colour reserved for the emperor — and Rihanna is no less than a modern day queen.
