What does personal style mean to you? To many, it’s more than just the clothes off their backs — it’s the freedom to express who they are on the inside before even saying a word. While we all have a personal sense of style, no two individuals are exactly the same when it comes to the way they dress. In this column I Want Her Style, we speak to the stylish individuals of Singapore, and find out what makes their minds tick when it comes to fashion, and the people who inspire them.
With an urban street style that’s both relatable and aspirational, digital content creator Rachel Wong is slaying all her looks.
Rachel Wong started blogging about her everyday musings and outfits in 2010, and made the transition to being a full-time digital content creator on Instagram in 2012. The 30-year-old, who majored in fashion communication at Lasalle College of the Arts, now has close to 200K followers on Instagram.
At first, her friends and family were puzzled about her career choice. “They often wondered if I was making enough money to eat,” she says. “Now, they always tell me they’re so proud of me, [and] how lucky I am!”
While she started off working with high street brands in her earlier years, she now counts luxury fashion houses, such as Prada, Ferragamo and Louis Vuitton, among her roster of clients. One of her most memorable fashion campaigns was the H&M x Moschino collaboration in 2018.
“I was working on the launch in New York, and that was the point in my career where I was like, ‘Okay, I’m doing something right.’ I attended the fashion show, and the experience felt surreal to me. I couldn’t believe it,” she shares.

When asked to describe her decade-long journey, Rachel says: “This job constantly surprises me, especially when a brand I only dreamt about working with pops up with a campaign.”
Recently, she was in Seoul for the launch of Calvin Klein’s capsule collection with Blackpink’s Jennie, and woke up to a host of comments from the brand’s Instagram account on her posts about the event. “I don’t think there’s a better way to start my day! I feel so lucky, so grateful, to do all of this for real,” she says.
Her dream campaign, she shares, would be with Chanel or Chanel Beauty. “The first luxury bag I bought for myself was from Chanel, so it has a special place in my heart,” she explains.
Here, Rachel reveals what guides her personal style, as well as some surprising facts about herself.
Rachel describes her style as sleek with a hint of streetwear cool
My personal style is…
Cosy, street, sleek, and sometimes cute.
I get my inspiration from…
Everywhere! I also really love Xiaohongshu (a Chinese social media platform).
My favourite designer is…
Michmika from Singapore. Mukzin, a label from China, is another favourite.
The best thing about fashion today is…
You can do whatever you want with so much less judgement!
My go-to, fuss-free outfit is…
Something simple. A cropped T-shirt with jeans or sweatpants for off days, especially in Singapore’s weather.
When purchasing something, my boxes to check are…
If it’s of good quality, and if I can see myself wearing it in five to 10 years.
A fashion faux pas would be…
When something that’s not supposed to be revealed gets revealed. You can dress sexily, but wardrobe malfunctions are never ever cute!
My most outrageous fashion item is…
My Balenciaga Furry Hourglass handbag in XS. It’s so furry, even the strap is furry! You’ll have to see it to know what I’m talking about.
If I wanted to up the ante with my wardrobe, I would…
Buy and wear more heels.
One thing about me that might surprise others is…
I’m in bed by 10pm most nights. Oh, and I need to wear earplugs in a club – it’s too noisy!
If I wasn’t a content creator, I would be…
An animal communicator, because I love animals and often wonder what they think about.

“I love watching an Asian girl out there slaying and ‘sliving’, and she’s always chic with her bold looks.”
Gilda Ambrosio and Giorgia Tordini, fashion designers and co-founders of The Attico, @gildaambrosio and @giorgiatordini
“Do I really need to say why? The Attico is one of the coolest brands around, and it’s one of my favourites. It’s edgy, yet its designs always enhance the female form.”
“Other than fashion, I love a good makeup queen. And Steph has the most fun makeup looks that make me want to try them out.”
