In the perpetual summertime climate of Singapore, there is little variation in standard tropical weather, a.k.a hot, humid and hotter. However there is currently a heat streak that even the most tolerant of humidity might be suffering from. Here’s our go-to way to dress when you’d rather go out it in your birthday suit than a measly layer of fabric in the morning!
The shirtdress is your bestfriend. Easy, breezy and effortlessly chic, this is the wardrobe staple you should aim to have at least five variations of to ensure you’ve got Monday-Friday vibes down pat. From super tailored to oversized, there are a wealth of possibilities available in this versatile staple. Here are some of our favourite styling tricks from the style set to help you put together your heat-proof working wardrobe.
Pair it with sneakers
A mannish silhouette works perfectly with clean and cool sneakers. We love fresh, white coloured kicks for a city chic look that’s great for running around in and keeping cool! Just make sure to wear trainer lining socks (Uniqlo do some great ones) to ensure your feet are smelling fresh at the end of the day!
Wrap it up
Olivia Palermo rocks a shirt dress with a shirt wrapped around her waist. She looks so insouciant and cool and the wrapped shirt adds definition in to an otherwise baggy silhouette. I love this alternative way to cinch in a shirt dress without a standard belt!
Go undone
We recommend Nicole Warne’s barefoot and fancy-free look only for weekends. But we can certainly advocate her full-length shirt dress with a few button undone for a weekday in the office.
Cinch it in
My personal take on the shirt dress is to always cinch it in. Unless the dress is perfectly tailored to your body in terms of length, I like having shape as those with boobs and hips may find their shape getting lost amongst folds of fabric otherwise.
Elevate yourself
Ankle boots with a stacked heel or even a strappy stilletto are a great way to add some class and flattering height to your shirt dress. Inherently a little casual in attire, a slightly rumpled shirt can look evening-ready with a little height and some sparkling hoops.
