According to the experts at Jo Malone, any room or occasion can be transformed with scent, and there are many ways to scent a home, from candles and diffusers to room sprays. But if you’re not too sure what works best for your host, here are three easy ways:
They Like Candles
Candles are perfect for setting the mood in a room. It not only scents the space, its warm glow also makes the room feel super cosy.
What your host can do: “Arrange clusters of candles in different scents and sizes to create a bespoke scent for your home and fill it with beautiful, flickering candlelight,” says Emma South, Jo Malone London’s Fragrance and Lifestyle UK Expert.
They Like Diffusers
Ideal for continuous and overall ambience, diffusers might be understated, but the scents are strong enough to envelop a whole room. Best placed on a mantelpiece, coffee table or even in the guest bathroom.
What your host can do: To get the most out of a diffuser, South suggests placing it in the hallway as “an inviting source of scent that greets you when you walk through the front door”.
They Like Room Sprays
It works just like perfume and is the quickest way to scent a space. However, they don’t linger very long, so it’s best to use them for specific moments.
What your host can do: To change the impression of the room, spritz a room spray liberally any time to lift the mood, or just moments before guests arrive.
