Fashion designer Giambattista Valli is renowned for his couture pieces, showing bright pieces with tight bodices and acres of flowing woolly skirt during the Fall/Winter 11 runways.

His collection with American department store Macy’s will be just as flamboyant as his regular creations, featuring lace, tulle and brocade as well as eye-popping fabrics.

“Valli is a visionary talent known for extravagant designs, so heading into the holiday season is a perfect moment for his creations in our stores,” Macy’s chief merchandising officer Jeff Gennette told WWD.

“This collection strikes just the right balance between youthfulness and sophistication.”

The collaboration is part of the shop’s Impulse designer series. Karl Lagerfeld recently unveiled his own range for the store under the banner.

Valli is expected to come up with a range of pieces, such as cocktail dresses, t-shirts and jackets. Prices will begin at US$50 (S$60), with the idea that the fashion should be affordable for style conscious women who prefer to stick to a budget.

“Our customer loves fashion,” executive vice president of marketing and advertising Martine Reardon explained. “[She] can’t necessarily go to couture fashion shows and doesn’t want to spend $1,000.”

The pieces will be available from October 26. © COVER MEDIA
