Francesco Scognamiglio closed the first day of Milan Fashion Week yesterday with a whimsical collection.
The designer’s Spring/Summer 13 show started late, but fashion editors were forgiving once they saw the models come down the runway.
The first look consisted of a cotton maxi skirt paired with a lace shirt, seemingly the inspiration for the whole line.
Dresses hit the floor, coming in white, black and the palest blue. The skirts were so well cut they almost appeared fluid, with one silky version featuring a camisole top with spaghetti straps and lace detailing around the plunging V.
Shorts also featured, boasting tie tops for a sporty vibe and coupled with blouses with long sleeves. On the whole outfits were one colour even if separates, suggesting the block trend will follow through from Fall/Winter 2012.
Mesh was also a key look, with frocks coming in the fabric – delicate lace inserts protected models’ modesty. Masculine tailoring also came down the runway, so baggy suits with wide-legged pants were coupled with boxy jackets.
