Expanding outwards in its third year, Singapore fashion design competition Star Creation will be taking entries for 2012 from 12 countries in the region including Korea.
The theme of “Fashion Without Frontiers” will allow aspiring designers to “draw on a borderless world of fashion, and be inspired by the global palette of colour, culture, fabrics, aesthetics” say organisers.

Star Creation, supported by the Textile and Fashion Federation Singapore (TaFf), will be held from May 12 to May 20 as part of Singapore’s annual Asia Fashion Exchange (AFX). The final run of the competition will be held on May 18 at The Tent@Orchard at Ngee Ann City’s Civic Plaza when 12 finalists will show their collections and the winners will be announced.
The winners will receive prizes from Audi Singapore – including a special Audi Young Designer Award (AYDA) – and a one-year work attachment with Singapore’s home-grown fashion success story, FJ Benjamin. During the internship, the winning designers will create a capsule collection that will be shown during the following AFX.
“Over the last three years, we have seen Star Creation really grow. Winners from our first batch have gone on to land design jobs with established labels like Raoul, or even started their own labels,” says Mr Benny Pua, TaFf’s president.
“This year’s winners are getting a taste of the fashion world in their current FJ Benjamin internships. Now, we want to open these opportunities to even more talented young designers in the region. Each year, we have seen some amazing designs that were already pushing the boundaries, and so this year we decided – why should there be boundaries at all? We are bracing ourselves for a slew of unusual creations that transcend frontiers of fashion.”
Star Creation is open to fashion designers aged between 16 and 35, who are Asian citizens; they will need to submit six original and previously unreleased designs; should not have more than two years in the fashion industry or be selling their designs or labels during the period of the competition. The closing date for entries is January 31, 2012.
