Amid a slew of 2000s fashion trends on the uptake, the butterfly motif may just be one of the most loved, with Chanel and Blumarine making heavy references to the alluring creature this Spring/Summer 2022 season. The latter has delved deep into revitalising 2000s styles with butterflies as a core symbol throughout the collection — particularly loved by Y2K icon Dua Lipa.

But the motif goes beyond the Y2K slay. Butterflies have been a reoccurring trend throughout the years, dating back to the 18th century when they used to be embroidered onto men’s waistcoats.
