Held at the Cour Carrée du Louvre, one of the historic courtyards of the Louvre Palace, the Louis Vuitton Fall-Winter 2024 show was a blend of past and present. Nicolas Ghesquière celebrated ten years at the maison by harkening back to his prior designs, like 2014's iconic Petite Malle. Yet, the show also looks towards the future, being set in a futuristic glasshouse with a giant pulsating light installation.
This philosophy was imbued in the bags on show as well. There was much reimagining of their classic designs. There were callbacks to Louis Vuitton's storied legacy as a luggage maker. But with the fresh design approaches, the bags were never derivative.
These are some of the bags we spotted at the show, both on the runway and on the arms of the celebrities.
The side trunk first debuted last year as part of their cruise collection, and has returned in a range of new colourways. It's a design that evokes the maison's humble beginnings in trunk-making, especially with the reinforced metal corners. In this case, we have it available with a chain strap in a white colourway, which makes for an appealing colour contrast with the navy furry gloves.
This mini version of the slouching side trunk is in a beautiful cognac colour, which accentuates the gold tone metal.
This is a new bag introduced in the Women's Fall-Winter 2024 collection. A reiteration of the side trunk, it features similar metal corners that accentuate the bag. The sleek slim trunk is flat on both sides but, due to its fortune cookie-esque silhouette, has plenty of volume.
It's offered here in the brand's famous monogram canvas.
LISA, of Blackpink fame, arrived for the show in style. The creative and flexible Pic Trunk is a minaudière disguised as a vintage camera, while also taking inspiration from travel trunks.
Made from Louis Vuitton's signature monogram canvas, the Around Me is inspired by Louis Vuitton's LV signature emblem used on storefronts and advertising in the 1920s.
A small slouching shoulder bag, complemented by leather trims on the side (which evoke the House's signature ogive shape zip pulls), this trendy and adorable bag opened Louis Vuitton's 2024 Spring/Summer collection.
The iconic Petite Malle pays true homage to Louis Vuitton's past as a trunk-maker, with the shape, the monogram canvas, even the gold tone lock all evoking a classic little trunk.
The Dice Bag in monogram canvas is playful yet versatile. The leather handle can be removed, so can the leather strap, and there's also a removable gold-tone chain.
The Camera Box takes the Petite Malle's signature details like the gold lock and metallic corners, and reinterprets them in a more modern shape. It even comes with a thin gold-colour chain for a little touch of feminine glamour.
