It seems like everyone has their eyes on China right now. From binge-worthy C-dramas and breathtaking landscapes to a drool-worthy food scene, the country has become one of the hottest destinations for travellers looking to immerse themselves in its rich culture. And beyond the viral hotpots, China’s thriving fashion scene is another reason to make room in your itinerary.
A new generation of Chinese designers aims to change the global perception of being “Made in China”. Blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary designs, many of these homegrown labels fuse Eastern culture influences, like literature and traditional dressing, with Western silhouettes and tailoring to create collections that are luxurious and truly distinct. Many of these designers have also gained international recognition, appearing on red carpets, concert stages and runway shows around the world.
Whether you’re looking to invest in timeless wardrobe staples, vibrant statement pieces or emerging luxury labels before they become household names, these seven Chinese fashion designers deserve a spot on your shopping list the next time you’re in China.
