If you do your shopping along Orchard Road, chances are, the long queue of shoppers outside the Louis Vuitton (LV) store at Ngee Ann City has been unmissable. Throngs of local LV fans and tourists regularly flock to the store to feast their eyes on its beauty, and of course — the brilliant work of LV’s artistic director of women’s collections Nicolas Ghesquière.
This year marks the 20th anniversary for this particular Louis Vuitton boutique and to celebrate this, the French maison decided to give it a facelift. This month, the newly renovated space is finally ready to greet its fans. Here’s what to look out for:
1. The women’s and men’s universes
This one’s probably a no-brainer. The store carries an extensive range for both men and women. On the ground floor, you can expect leather goods and accessories as well as the new Les Parfums collection. Further in, you’ll find the men’s collections, spanning from ready-to-wear to travel luggage. This can only mean one thing — it’s shopping time!
2. Original artwork by established artists
Entering a room filled with all things LV is every fashion girl’s dream. When you’re busy trying on the different accessories and ready-to-wear pieces, your boyfriend can either explore the men’s collections or when he’s done with that, he can admire the stunning original works by Iranian pop art artist Farhad Moshiri and German born photographer Michael Brunn — all of which have been specially selected to fit the store’s modern and sophisticated aesthetic. How thoughtful is that?
3. Flylight installation
As you make your way to the store’s ribbon staircase, another special artwork awaits you. This time, it’s an interactive 3D artwork titled Flylight; it’s a glowing display that’s made up of glass, wire and LED lights, and is the brainchild of designers from Amsterdam design firm Studio Drift — Lonneke Gordijn and Ralph Nauta. Sensing your movement, it illuminates to welcome your arrival. While it’s still lit, don’t forget to grab your phone and snap a few photos or Boomerangs for your Instagram.
