Ever since she stepped into the spotlight after placing in the 1997 Miss Hong Kong pageant, veteran actress Charmaine Sheh Sze-man has been known to bring unmatched passion to each project she takes on. Unsurprisingly, Charmaine channels this same amount of dedication and hard work into her beauty and wellness routines.

Looking fresh-faced as ever, the 49-year-old TVB star who was recently in town (29 Aug) for a media event hosted by local skincare brand Blé de Fonty credits her good skin to the latter’s fast-acting formulas such as their new Advanced Anti-Wrinkle Eye Elixir Beauty Pearls.

“Initially I was sceptical of the brand’s promise of delivering results in just seven days but I noticed an improvement in my complexion (after using their products) especially when it comes to de-puffing my face in the morning,” says Charmaine. “The difference was so noticeable that my photographer even thought that I underwent an aesthetic treatment,” she adds.

An occupational hazard, “Story of Yanxi Palace” leading lady says her skin is often put through the wringer with long hours of makeup wear for shoots and on sets, so she prioritises deep cleansing to remove all makeup residue thoroughly.  I cleanse my skin four times in a row. I start with a cleansing milk. I repeat this step twice. I then follow up with a facial wash. I do this twice as well,” she reveals.

Below, the prolific actress discusses her skincare routine, tips to staying in shape and approach to beauty.

On face masking

1/5

“To bring the moisture back into my skin (after cleansing) and balance my skin’s oil and water levels, I’ll apply a face mask before sealing in all the good stuff with the rest of my skincare products.” I mask my face twice daily. Once in the morning to “wake up” and energise my skin and before I go to bed, after I remove my makeup.”

On staying trim

2/5

“Avoid overeating. Instead, I believe in having small, frequent meals. You don’t have to deprive yourself but eat in moderation.”

On being gentle with your skin

3/5

“Besides being mindful of the skincare products that you use, technique matters too. When you apply your skincare products, do it in an upward motion to prevent tugging at the skin.”

On taking care of your eyes

4/5

“As an actress, I need to convey various emotions with my peepers so taking care of my eye area is really important to me. Also, your eyes are the first to show signs of ageing and once they appear, it’s irreversible.”

On her next career move

5/5

“I’m looking for the right script but I hear that the writers are starting work on ‘The Queen of News’.”
