In this new V-Day series, we asked beauty insiders and Her World Tribe members to pen heartfelt letters addressed to their most cherished makeup, skincare, and hair care products.

“In every girl’s life, there’s always a first that leaves an indelible mark – a first crush, first love, or even a makeup product. Typically, these ‘firsts’ mark an exciting new phase of life.

For me, that experience was with a Bobbi Brown pale pink blush inherited from my mum. It was 1994, and I was 14 years old. My mother knew how much I wanted to experiment with makeup as all of my peers were delving into it as well.

Mum always had impeccable taste; you’ll never catch her with too much makeup. I was insecure and struggled to find products that suited me.

When mum gave me my first blush, she told me it was a subtle hue that would flatter any age group. She waxed lyrical about the formula, and shared how it would impart a hint of colour without appearing overdone. And she was right. It was love at first swipe, and I never looked back.

Years have passed, yet it remains a favourite in my collection. When the time came for me to introduce my daughter to her first makeup product, I chose it without hesitation. I hope Myla navigates her journey to young adulthood with more confidence than I did at her age, wearing this blush as a symbol of empowerment. This unassuming pot of pale pink blush has come full circle.”
