We all want great skin and while you’ve probably mastered your skincare routine, there are definitely things we could always improve on (like choosing the right sunscreen).

Here are some great tips we’ve learned so far that will give you great skin.

Always prep skin

Prepping skin just before moisturising is so important because it ensures that all the moisturiser you’ve applied gets absorbed optimally.

Always make it a point to cleanse skin, tone it and use an essence to increase absorption.

Choose the right moisturiser for yourself

For those of you who have sensitive skin and are prone to breakouts, keep clear of oil-based moisturisers. Not only will they clog your pores, they’ll also increase the likelihood of breakouts and make your skin a lot greasier.

However, that’s not to say you shouldn’t moisturise your skin! There are plenty of other options — including water-based moisturisers — that can keep skin moisturised throughout the day.

Never over apply moisturiser

There is such a thing as moisturising too much. If you feel like your moisturiser isn’t work hard enough for you and doesn’t last as long as you’d like for it to, consider looking for a different formulation.

Understand your skin needs

Dry skin isn’t the same as dehydrated skin. Dry skin usually lacks oil and doesn’t look supple while, dehydrated skin feels “tight”. Look for a moisturiser which suits your specifice skin type and needs. For instance, if you've got dehydrated skin, look to hydrating formulas with ingredients such as cucumber or hyaluronic acids. If you've got oily skin, you'd want to reach for oil-free moisturisers.

You apply moisturiser on dry skin

The best time to apply moisturiser is to apply it right after coming out of the shower. We’re not saying your skin should be drenched and wet but it should be damped.

Alternatively, you could always spritz your skin with face mist to help keep it damp.
