As a former beauty editor, I’ve tried a lot of skincare products, and my skin has become more sensitive over the years. Every time the weather changes, I break out or my skin becomes easily flushed. So when it comes to choosing new products for my skin, I’ve become very selective.

That’s why the new Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Intense Reset Concentrate got me interested. It promises to rescue – and reset – irritated and stressed skin in a jiffy.

The formula contains three complexes: a patented, stabilised salicylic acid and resveratrol cocktail to soothe skin while promoting its natural recovery response; a complex made with fermented yeast to optimise the way the skin gets rid of toxins and heals damage; and the American beauty brand’s patented Chronolux Technology to sync with and boost skin’s natural repair processes.

It also contains antioxidants to protect and strengthen the skin against free radicals, and works as you sleep to renew the skin for a smoother and softer complexion when you wake up. The product is also immensely hydrating – it contains 15 times more multi-molecular weight hyaluronic acid than another Estee Lauder fave, the Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II (ANR) serum – promising 24-hour hydration.

I used Intense Reset Concentrate during a week-long trip to Seoul and here’s what it did:

On the plane

I applied it before boarding. The velvety gel emulsion, with its relaxing camomile, lavender and hedione (a citrus-floral) scent, seemed rich initially but sat comfortably on the skin, sealing in the goodness of the ANR serum I had applied before it.

On landing

When I got off the plane, I noticed that my skin didn’t look as parched, nor did it feel as tight and uncomfortable, from hours spent in dry, plane air.

During my trip

I had arrived at the height of summer in Seoul, so it was intensely hot and humid, coupled with fine dust pollution. During my stay, I used Intense Reset Concentrate with the ANR serum every night, and saw how my skin improved over the week. My blemishes looked less angry from the first night, and slowly subsided over a few days. My complexion looked fresh, and felt smooth and supple too. Even my makeup was sitting better.

What I like about the product is that it’s like hitting the reset button every time my skin gets irritated and feels out of whack. It not only soothes and hydrates, it also makes my skin look healthier and radiant the next morning, even if I don’t get enough sleep.

And the best bit? You don’t have to use it every night. Just use it as and when your skin needs a little extra help. And honestly, that’s how skincare should be – use what you need when you need it, because our skin constantly changes due to stress, the weather and even hormones. Now that’s something I can get behind.

The Estee Lauder Intense Reset Concentrate is available at all Estee Lauder boutiques and counters, and Sephora stores. Price start from $140.
