After researching almost 30,000 species of orchids, it seems that Guerlain has discovered the key to extending skin longevity. Two, in particular, showed exceptional capabilities in invigorating skin cells.

Gastodia elata, a Yunnan native, helps to fight the lack of oxygen while protecting skin cells. It regulates cell respiration and stimulates a survival protein, HIF-1, that revives skin cells, helping them breathe. Then there’s Dendrobium fimbriatum – a species that only lives on the trunks and branches of other trees – which boosts the production of the longevity enzyme PHD3. This bolsters the skin’s essential rejuvenating functions.

This double chain reaction is encapsulated by Guerlain’s trademarked Orchid Totum technology – a molecular extract that packs the benefits of both orchids, delivering their synergistic abilities to breathe air (literally) into tired, ageing skin cells.

After a week, the results from dermatologists’ clinical observations showed a 31 per cent increase in plumpness and density, 22 per cent reduction in wrinkles, 49 per cent increase in radiance, and a whopping 52 per cent increase in hydration. What’s more, 99 per cent of 104 women surveyed found that their skin became firmer and smoother.

The brand also ran over 6,000 ultrasounds to test the skin density of users between the ages of 18 and 72. It found that regular use takes at least three years off skin’s age. With consistent application, skin feels hydrated, with a noticeable tightening effect that lifts and contours the face. The rich and emollient cream feels rich to the touch, but massages easily into skin, leaving a radiant sheen.

Guerlain Orchidee Imperiale The Cream ($742 for 50ml, and $631 for its refill) is available at Guerlain Tangs at Tang Plaza, Metro and Takashimaya D.S.
