Late nights, cocktails and fast food can leave your skin looking puffy and dull, especially around the eyes. As makeup artist Larry Yeo points out, foods like oats and instant coffee can also cause fluid retention, so it might be best to avoid them. For days when that’s not possible, fret not. Here are some remedies:
Cold contracts blood vessels and reduces swelling. So place a few cucumber slices over your eyelids for five minutes. You can also use tea bags that have been soaked in cold water.
Gliding movements help to clear the fluid. Using metal spoons that have been left in the refrigerator, place the backs under your eyes and, starting from the inner corners, glide them outwards.
Wrap used coffee grounds in a paper towel, dampen and gently press it around your eyes. Coffee contains caffeine that tightens skin.
Splash your face with cold water. The low temperature will help speed up circulation and reduce puffiness. Do this for three to five times and pat dry.
