And it isn’t just for sensitive skin, there’s something for every skin concern, from oily to dehydrated

Japan is easily one of my favourite places to visit. And of course, like any beauty junkie, I’m always visiting the beauty stores and drugstores to see what interesting products I can bring home. While I’ve seen the D Program from Shiseido Group skincare range on my many trips, I did not pick up any to try.

So now that the brand is in Singapore (sold exclusively at Watsons), I’m really excited that I get to test it out.

The D Program from Shiseido Group focuses on sensitive skin. It has been the number one sensitive skincare brand in Japan for the last 10 years, and is so popular that one bottle of D Program Lotion is sold every 30 seconds in the country.

The different Lotions and Emulsions strengthen the skin’s barrier while the Allerdefense range of sunscreens and BB creams protects the skin. The result: Healthier, stronger skin better able to withstand external environmental damage, such as UV rays and pollutants.

And because sensitive skin can also suffer from acne, ageing or pigmentation, the brand has ranges to address them: Balance Care to restore balance, Acne Care for blemishes, Moist Care for dry skin, Vital Act for ageing woes, and Whitening Clear for redness and dark spots

With that in mind, I decided to choose the Balance Care and Whitening Clear to target my current skin concerns – combination and dehydrated skin exacerbated by the heat and humidity we’ve been experiencing recently, along with a dull complexion and a light smattering of age spots.

Here’s how it went down:

Balance Care Lotion, $40.90, and Balance Care Emulsion, $46.90

1/3

What It Is: A toner and moisturiser pair that soothes and rebalances skin’s water and oil levels while keeping it hydrated and healthy.

How It Feels: Both are really lightweight and perfect for those who are not fans of thick textures that leave a tacky finish. It also applies like a dream and absorbs quickly.

The Results: I’m a convert of the Balance Care Lotion. It’s my new must-have. I’ve been keeping it in my skincare fridge because using it chilled is so refreshing on the skin. On really hot days, I use it as a mask, saturating cotton pads with the Lotion and placing them on my cheeks and forehead for instant relief.

The Balance Care Emulsion is part of my morning routine, and one week on, my complexion is sufficiently hydrated and looks less shiny and oily during the day too.

Whitening Clear Lotion, $42.90, and Whitening Clear Emulsion, $49.90

2/3

What It Is: A brightening duo – toner and moisturiser – that not reduces redness, soothes inflamed skin and keeps pigmentation at bay.

How It Feels: While still really lightweight, the Whitening Clear Emulsion is just a tad thicker in texture. But what I really liked about the Emulsion is how soft and immediately brighter my skin is after application. However, I was a little worried that the range would not be hydrating enough for night care because I sleep with the air-conditioner on.

The Results: I ended up incorporating the Whitening Clear range into my night-time routine to calm my red, itchy skin – the result of a long day working in my non-air-conditioned living room, followed by prepping dinner in my tiny kitchen.

It’s been a week and my complexion looks more even-toned. There’s also a soft glow when I wake each morning. As for reducing the appearance of pigmentation spots, I will have to try this longer to see more obvious results.

Allerdefense Essence SPF46/PA+++, $40.90

3/3

What It is: A chemical-free sunscreen that not only protects the skin against UV damage but also soothes and reduces redness. Plus, the brand says it’s clinically proven to hydrate skin for up to 12 hours too.

How It Feels: The watery lotion-like texture is perfect for Singapore’s humid weather. It absorbs easily and doesn’t leave the skin feeling greasy or with an annoying white cast. It’s so lightweight that I forget I’m even wearing sunscreen at times.

The Results: It also makes a decent makeup base – I apply a little BB cream on top of the sunscreen, then head into my Zoom calls. My complexion looks a little brighter and more importantly, I don’t get the dreaded midday shine, a common thing when using other sunscreens. It’s definitely going into my back-to-work stash.

From $40.90. The D Program is available exclusively at www.watsons.com.sg and Watsons stores.
