From The Straits Times    |

Wouldn’t it be great if matte lipsticks could feel as good as it looked, like when your high heels surprise you with their built-in gel insoles? Speaking of comfort, the good folks at Gucci just launched their Rouge à Lèvres Mat Lipstick that promises a soft, velvety matte finish on top of long-wearing colour and comfort. My, my.

What it is:

The Gucci Rouge a Levres Mat has a nourishing formulation and lightweight finish which grants a highly-pigmented colour payoff. There are 28 shades available – nudes, oranges, pinks, reds, purples and a shade of majestic green – making it a great bold colour palette for self-expression.

Its claims:

The matte lipsticks are said to melt onto your lips with its velvety texture without drying out or colour smudging. The result? A nourished pout coated in a pigment-packed hue.

Key ingredients:

It credits its winning formula to a gelling soft wax base.

A velvety-soft texture that glides on smoothly and dries to a semi-matte finish.

You know you have a winner in your hands when a matte lipstick paints heavily yet feels light as air. I tried the 106 Tacey Hazel (Hazel Clay) and the 25 Goldie Red (The Gucci Red). The colour payoff was excellent including the staying power which was great for those of us who sit in meetings after meetings without a change for a proper touch-up.

I’m hard-pressed to find a matte lipstick that doesn’t dry out my lips despite its high stakes claim of keeping my pout hydrated for hours. Since then, many matte variations have come and gone in my makeup bag. But the Gucci Rouge a Levres Mat kept my lips hydrated and soft to the touch for at least six hours.

My only gripe: the colour did crease into the fine lines on my lips (even with applying lip balm prior). Close-ups, not advised. That aside, the lipstick was beautiful, creamy, and earned a spot in my makeup bag for the upcoming holiday soirees.
