Hailey Bieber’s gorgeous ‘glazed donut’ nails that she sported at the 2022 Met Gala have recently gone viral. They're pearlescent pink nails with a milky, shiny sheen, resembling a glazed donut (what else?). We’re obsessed too, as the nails are classy and subtle yet glamorous at the same time.
In fact, they’re so viral, celebrity nail artist Zola Ganzorigt — Hailey’s manicurist — has revealed exactly how she does Hailey’s nails. Zola does this design with gel polish which means you’ll need a nail lamp, the one you put your hand into when curing your nails at the salon.
If you have your own lamp because you dabble in the occasional gel nail DIY, great! We’ll share the very products that Zola uses with Hailey so you can replicate these glazed donut nails at home.
But if not, that’s fine too. We also have a handy hack you can use to recreate those shimmery nails with good ol’ regular nail polish.
Here's how to go about getting these nails:
Zola says to apply a layer of this base coat, and cure in a lamp for 30 seconds.
If you don't have a nail lamp but wouldn't mind getting one, this is our pick! It's affordable, well-reviewed, and reliable – you may even have spotted this brand at your salon.
After the case coat's been cured, follow it up with one coat of OPI's beloved Funny Bunny shade, to be cured for 60 seconds. But if you want a more opaque look, swipe on an extra coat.
Now, apply this top coat, which you'll cure for 60 seconds too.
Using a small brush, rub this into the nail with a small sponge brush and dust off any excess. Once you've cleaned up the nail, apply a last layer of top coat.
Just like that, you're done. Don't they look scrumptious?
Now, onto how you can recreate these nails with normal nail polish.
Now, apply some polish. It's up to you to choose a shade, but we recommend a sheer cream or pink one like OPI's Funny Bunny or Bubble Bath, or Essie's Marshmallow or Ballet Slippers — all pictured above.
Yes, you read that right. When the nail polish has dried, use a sponge or an eyeshadow brush to apply some eyeshadow to the nail. For the desired glazed donut look, we suggest using palette with shimmery shades, like in the Dior Backstage Glow Face Palette.
Dust on more eyeshadow for a more intense glaze (more is always more), and remember to clean up the edges as you go along.
Wait for them to dry, and you're good to go! This version with regular nail polish may not be an exact replica of the famed glazed donut nails (as seen above on Vanessa Hudgens) but not too shabby for a mani with things you already have lying at home, right?
