Survive the heat

1/11

Each year, the NDP gets bigger and better but there is one constant that doesn’t change: The unforgiving weather. You’ll most probably leave the parade drenched from your own perspiration, which doesn’t bode well for any of us. So what should you do?

Enter our NDP survival guide where we impart to you some nifty tips on how to stay cool and collected throughout the parade. We promise you’ll leave the parade a hot mess, the good kind.

Slouch fit

2/11

The heat is through the roof when you’re at the parade - especially if you’re one of those who chope seats as early as 3pm - contributed by all the body heat amassing from the crowd and of course, the sun. You’ll want to dress in clothings that are of loose fit so that it doesn’t cling to your body when there’s perspiration.

We suggest teaming a red camisole or with a pair of white dressy high-waisted shorts. The great thing about camisole is that it tends to dry pretty fast, so that will work to your advantage. Plus, you’ll be dressing to the theme while remaining comfy throughout. We recommend this red cami from ASOS and lace white shorts from Warehouse.

Baseball cap

3/11

Baseball caps are super on trend this season and for good reasons. They are so versatile; you can nail a K-fashion preppy look to a street style mod appearance or even an athleisure vibe.

So what better way to shield yourself from the scorching heat? To avoid clashing of colours, we suggest going for a nude or a pastel shade that goes well with most colours.

Mini backpack

4/11

We know, you’d love to carry your tote bag or shoulder bag to match with your outfit but we recommend you to carry a small backpack instead. Why? A small backpack helps to distribute the weight equally on both shoulders, so you don’t weigh a particular side of your body down for prolonged period.

Trust us, you’ll be glad you carried one. Besides, mini backpack is THE bag for Instagram-beloved celebs like Bella Hadid, Kylie Jenner and more.

Shades

5/11

Always remember to shield your eyes properly as well. You don’t want to be squinting throughout the whole parade, do you?

If you’re not sure of which shades to wear, we’ve got a comprehensive guide that teaches you how to identify your face shape before choosing the right sort of frame to ace that sunglasses game.

Mist

6/11

Keep calm and spritz on. You’ll need it. We suggest packing a travel-size Avene spring water mist in your bag (for more travel-size beauty essentials, go here). This way, you can spray some and cool yourself down whenever you feel that the heat is too intense. Alternatively, keep fresh with this isotonic face spray.

Ear plugs

7/11

Why ear plugs? Simply because the live firing and fireworks slot are pretty deafening. So if you’re not interested in using your own fingers to press against your ears because you need them to snap some pictures for the ‘gram, then opt for a pair of earplugs then.

Sunscreen

8/11

While this is a no brainer, we just want to put up a kind reminder to always, always pack a small bottle of sunscreen into your bag. Of course, slather on some before you leave your home, but do remember to reapply it every two hours to ensure maximum protection from the merciless UV rays.

We recommend Biore’s UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel sunscreen, the formula is featherlight and watery, making it a cooling product - go here for a quick guide to all the cooling products you need to stay fresh - to freshen up your skin with. Bonus: It contains hyaluronic acid that promises to hydrate the body.

Hydrate

9/11

Though there is a bottle of water in the goodie bag given, we highly suggest that you bring along another bottle to ensure that you re-hydrate yourself throughout. This prevents a heat stroke from happening.

Refuel

10/11
