Wei Yingluo’s gradient lips in Story of Yanxi Palace

2/9

This two tone lip finish that creates the “just kissed effect” and is a makeup look that was amongst women in ancient China during the Ming Dynasty.

A darker lip colour is concentrated in the centre of the lips and is faded out at the edges.

One way to get this look is to cover the lips with concealer before layering a pigmented lippy over.

But now, it’s easier to nail the look with just one lipstick or lip tint and a BB cushion.

1. Start by prepping your lips with a lip mask or hydrating lip balm.

2. Blot off any excess product with a tissue.

3. Apply your lip colour of choice to the centre of your lips, then smack them together, allowing the colour to naturally blend out towards the edges.

5. If you find the contrast too stark, add more colour to the centre of your lips before blending it out towards the edges with a lip brush.
