If you’re looking for a low-commitment way to switch up your look, we might have the solution for you: coloured contacts!
You can go from subtle to completely show-stopping or somewhere in the middle. One of the best ways to play up your new eye colour is through complementary makeup. We spoke to Sophia Chia, Education Manager at Shu Uemura to get tips and tricks to create eye-catching makeup looks that will complement your contact lenses.
Look 1: Everyday natural eye makeup look to suit brown hued lenses
Makeup artist: Louise Yong
Step 1: Sweep a neutral tone nude eyeshadow over the entire eyelid
Key tip: When choosing an eyeshadow to complement your lenses, choose a shade from the same colour family. You can actually refer to the colour wheel to pick an eyeshadow colour that will match your lenses. “Look at the colour wheel, if your lenses are blue, what is opposite of the colour blue can be used as eyeshadow so that there is contrast (while still keeping the look) easy on the eyes,” said Sophia. If you want your eyes to stand out, on the other hand, Sophia recommends playing with the idea of contrast. If you have purple lenses, for example, you can go with a colour like green.
Step 2: Add definition to your eyes with a stroke of eyeliner. Lining your eyes can help to frame and brighten your eyes. Keep your liner close to the lash line instead of the waterline to open your eyes and make them appear wider
Step 3: Hold your mascara wand in a vertical position and give your lashes a few good swipes back and forth so you can get to those tinier lashes at the corners of your eyes
Step 4: Mimic the tiny hairs that make up your brows by using small, flicking motions to apply the brow pencil in the direction your hair is growing
Step 5: Complete the look with a coral lippy
Step 6: There you have it – the completed makeup look

Look 2: Night out makeup look to suit green hued lenses
Makeup artist: Jhune Alcantara
Step 1: With your ring finger, gently pat some eye primer on your lids to prevent your eye makeup from smudging. You can follow up with an eyeliner and line inside the waterline for added definition
Step 2: Sweep a light grey eyeshadow over the whole entire eyelid. This will be the base of your eyeshadow
Step 3: With a grey eyeshadow that is a shade darker than your base colour, layer it over your base colour. Keep the eyeshadow near your lash line to create depth with your eyeshadow
Step 4: With a dark grey eyeshadow, bring the colour up to the eye socket. With the same colour, you can blend out your eyeliner to soften the look
Step 5: Pop some electric blue eyeshadow on your lower lash line to draw attention to your eyes
Step 6: Perk up your whole face and get a gorgeous glow with a powder highlighter. Create a “3” shape, starting from the temples with a fluffy brush and your highlighter of choice
Step 7: Apply some blusher on the apples of your cheeks to add a little warmth and rosiness to your complexion
Step 8: Lighter brows are youthful and bring a high-fashion feel to any makeup look. With a brow tint, lighten the colour of your eyebrows.
Step 9: Top it all off with a mauve lip colour and apply your lippy with a brush for added precision
Step 10: And you’re done! – the completed makeup look
