US cosmetics brand Prescriptives was ahead of its time (or what we would call it now: inclusive) when it introduced its Custom Blend Foundation way back in 1979. It wasn’t a range with many shades; it created your own unique shade on the spot, and in any formulation that best suited you. With matching loose powder to boot.
So what happened between then and recently? Pretty much nada, especially with Korean brands, which are good for innovation but not for being inclusive.
More shades is one thing. What makes the latest lot a genuine game changer: “Darker skins usually have blue undertones, and the new foundations finally address that,” says local makeup artist Melissa Yeo. “Previous versions had red, yellow or peach undertones – good for fairer skin, but not for tanned and dark.”
